Families of the Time for Truth Campaign met with Swedish MPs today.
The Time for Truth Campaign was honoured today (23.8.2023) to meet with a group of political representatives of the Swedish Riksdag parliament.
The political representatives met with the families and local community leaders in St. Comgalls, West Belfast. They heard the stories of each family member and discussed the impact of the proposed Legacy Bill - Britain's Bill of Shame - on ongoing campaigns for truth and justice.
The families of the Time for Truth Campaign highlighted how damaging this draconian piece of legislation would be for families across Ireland and Britain. We emphasized that Britain wanted to bury its war crimes in Ireland and protect its killers.
We told the visiting group that the Legacy Bill was an assault on our basic human rights and that we were supported by human rights groups, lawyers and academics across civic society. The group also knew that every political party in Ireland is against the Legacy Bill, as are leading representatives in America and EU.
The Swedish contingent has travelled here to inform themselves on issues relating to the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement, the current political climate, and Brexit.
