Call to ACTION! Join with the families of the Time for Truth Campaign at the Northern Ireland Office.
Families of the Time for Truth Campaign will be protesting Britain’s disgraceful Legacy Act at the Northern Ireland Office (NIO) building in Belfast City Centre, Wednesday 1st May 2024 at 1pm.
The protest coincides with the Legacy Act's 1st May deadline that the British government unilaterally imposed to stop most legacy legal cases and deny hundreds of families equal access to due process of the law.
Family members will be available for interview at the protest to discuss the dreadful impact of the Legacy Act, Britain's "Act of Shame".
Who: Families of the Time for Truth Campaign Protest
Why: Protest against the Tory Legacy Act, Britain’s Act of Shame
When: Wednesday 1st May at 1pm
Where: NIO, Erskine House, 20 – 32 Chichester Street, Belfast, BT1 4GF
Ciarán MacAirt, spokesperson for the Time for Truth Campaign said:
"The families of the Time for Truth Campaign will be protesting Wednesday 1st May 2024 at 1pm outside the NIO on the day that the British government has denied us equal access to due process of the law. Britain is a serial human rights abuser but this blatant attack on our basic human rights would embarrass tin-pot dictators in the so-called Third World."
"Our families have been campaigning tirelessly for over six years for the implementation of the Stormont House Agreement and a proper human rights-compliant means for dealing with the legacy of the past. Britain, though, wants to bury its war crimes in Ireland and protect its killers."
"We demand the repeal of the Act of Shame in its entirety. It is an attack on our basic human rights and the rule of law. We reject any attempt by the British state to dress up the likes of the so-called Independent Commission for Reconciliation and Information Recovery as a substitute for a proper, Article 2-compliant pathway to truth and justice."
"Join us and show your support for the families and our basic human rights outside the NIO offices in Belfast city centre."
