The Time for Truth Campaign is hosting an event at this year's Féile an Phobail.
Citizen's Rights Denied: the Fight Continues is a panel discussion with leading experts in legacy issues and the law.
Our event is chaired by Avila Kilmurray, author, community activist, and peace-builder.
Joining her in conversation are:
- Niall Murphy, one of Ireland's leading human rights lawyers (bio link).
- Professor Monica McWilliams, a renowned academic, peace activist, and human rights defender (bio link).
- Barra McGrory KC SC, again internationally renowned in the legal field and former Director of Public Prosecutions for Northern Ireland (bio link)
Our panel will scrutinize the undermining of the rights agenda by successive British governments since the onset of the conflict and the beginning of the peace process.
The breaching of the European Convention on Human Rights by the British state in the North of Ireland is well documented. The panel will discuss the failure of the British state to deal with the legacy of the past and the impact of Britain's disgraceful Legacy Act.
They will also take questions from the floor as there will be many people interested to hear what victims and survivors need to do now in their own fights for truth and justice.
- Place: St. Mary's University College, Falls Road, Belfast
- Date: Friday 9th August 2024
- Time: 5pm - 630pm
Free to attend, no booking required, and everyone welcome.
