Families of the Time for Truth Campaign Welcome the Support of the Law Society
The families of the Time for Truth Campaign have warmly welcomed the decision of the Law Society to postpone its conference on Britain’s disgraceful Legacy Act which was scheduled for this Friday. This followed an appeal by our families to the Law Society to cancel the conference.
The families of the Time for Truth Campaign petitioned the President and Chief Executive of the Law Society last week to cancel its controversial conference “Legacy: Reaching Beyond the Past” and to “listen to the voices of the victims’ families.”
This week, we warmly welcome the Law Society’s cancellation of the event as it would have insulted victims and survivors across the country who respect human rights and the rule of law. Spokesperson for the Time for Truth Campaign, Ciarán MacAirt said:
“Hundreds of our family members had pledged to picket the event but instead of leaving victims and survivors of the conflict standing out in the cold, the Law Society has listened to us and canceled the event. The British Government has ignored our cries for basic human rights and equal access to due process of the law.”
“Our families greatly appreciate the Law Society’s thoughtful cancellation and acknowledge its continued opposition to the disgraceful Legacy Act. We are much stronger together.”
“Meanwhile, though, Britain waives the rules and wants to bury its war crimes in Ireland and protect it killers, so our fight for truth and justice will continue.”
