Time for Truth National Day of Action Belfast - Human Rights

Protests on International Human Rights Day

On International Human Rights Day, our families are protesting at Stormont PSNI Headquarters.

Families of the Time for Truth Campaign will protest (1) Northern Ireland Office at Stormont; (2) Police Service Northern Ireland Headquarters, Knock, on International Human Rights Day, Friday 10th December 2021.

The families are protesting the British government’s pernicious Legacy Bill and the PSNI’s blocking of reports and withholding of evidence. Family members will be available for interview at each protest.

What: Time for Truth Campaign Family Protest, International Human Rights Day (10.12.21)

When/Where:   (1) 11:00 – 11:15 am Stormont, Stormont House, NIO;

(2) 11:30 – 11:45 am PSNI Headquarters, Knock, Belfast

(1) Families of the Springhill – Westrock and New Lodge Six Massacres will hand in a letter of protest to the British Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Brandon Lewis MP. The families of the Time for Truth Campaign are reiterating our outright objection to the British government’s proposed Legacy Bill as outlined in its so-called Command Paper of July 2021.

(2) The protest will then move to PSNI HQ, Knock, where the families of the Ormeau Road Bookmakers’ and McGurk’s Bar Massacres will hand in a letter of protest to PSNI regarding the force’s stalling of family reports and withholding of evidence in the murder of their loved ones.

The coordinated protests coincide with International Human Rights Day on Friday 10th December.

Spokesperson for the Time for Truth Campaign said:

“Today is International Human Rights Day. It is a day when we mark the concept of basic human rights for all citizens across the globe. These rights were hard won and are deeply cherished by all freedom loving people, but we cannot take them for granted. We need to protect them.”

“We are protesting at Stormont and PSNI Headquarters today as our basic human rights are under attack.”

“Britain’s legacy proposals outlined in its Command Paper are an attempt by a human rights abuser to bury its war crimes and protect its killers. The British government is assaulting our equal access to due process of the law and trying to shut down every legal avenue ordinary families have to truth and justice. Meanwhile, the so-called reformed Police Service Northern Ireland is perverting the course of justice by blocking family reports which prove the RUC worked with Loyalist death squads or withholding critical evidence in the murder of fellow citizens.”
